Google Ads MCP server: connect your AI agent to your account

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting an AI assistant to tools it can call. An MCP server is the part that offers those tools, so one connection replaces a separate integration for every assistant and every product.

A Google Ads MCP server puts your ad account behind those tools. Once it's connected, you ask your assistant which campaigns are wasting budget, and it pulls the search terms report, adds negative keywords, shifts budget between campaigns or builds a new campaign that sits ready and paused, in the chat window you already work in. Adlyko is a hosted Google Ads MCP server with 76 tools that read and change your account.

Which searches bring in conversions but aren't keywords in my account yet?

Reads 90 days of search terms and conversions, and compares them with your existing keywords

Seven searches brought in 31 conversions together without you bidding on them. The strongest is "heat pump installation": 12 conversions at €18 per conversion, all coming in through a broad variant in "General". They don't fit an existing ad group. Shall I create a separate ad group for them with these seven keywords on exact match, plus an ad that matches that intent? I'll only do it once you say yes.

Yes, go ahead. Same bid strategy and budget as General.

Changes your account: 1 ad group, 7 keywords and 1 ad created

Done. "Heat pump installation" is set up with seven exact keywords, the same bid strategy as General and an ad with 15 headlines. Want to exclude those seven searches in "General" too? Then your own groups won't bid against each other later.

Example conversation with made-up numbers, in the form you'll see in your own agent.

What is a Google Ads MCP server?

A Google Ads MCP server is a service that offers your Google Ads account to an AI assistant as a set of callable tools. The assistant doesn't read a screenshot or a pasted export. It calls a tool, the server fetches the answer straight from your account, and it comes back as structured data the model can calculate with.

That difference is bigger than it sounds. Pasting a report into a chat gives the model a snapshot that's already out of date and misses everything you didn't copy. A tool call goes to the live account, at the moment you ask, and returns exactly the fields that belong to your question.

The second half is what most people come for. A tool can also write. Adding a negative keyword, raising a budget or pausing a campaign is just as much a tool call, so the same conversation that found the problem can also fix it.

What can your agent actually do with it?

Adlyko offers 76 tools, grouped around the four things you do in an ad account: research, build, launch carefully and keep optimizing. Anything the tools don't cover directly, you request with a custom GAQL report, Google Ads' own query language.

Research

  • ✓Performance of campaigns, ad groups and keywords in one question
  • ✓Search terms, wasted spend and negative keyword opportunities
  • ✓Quality Scores, impression share and auction insights

Build

  • ✓Campaigns, ad groups and keywords from a conversation
  • ✓Responsive search ads, sitelinks and other extensions
  • ✓Match types, bids and budgets exactly the way you want them

Launch

  • ✓Every new campaign is created paused
  • ✓Switching it on is a separate step you take yourself
  • ✓Everything happens straight in your own account, nothing on the side

Optimize

  • ✓Spotting anomalies and tracking how your budget is pacing
  • ✓Bids per device, time of day and region
  • ✓Custom GAQL reports for anything the ready-made tools don't cover

How does Adlyko compare to Google's own MCP server?

Google publishes its own open source Google Ads MCP server at googleads/google-ads-mcp. It has three tools and, in Google's own words, is strictly read-only. Adlyko has 76 tools, can make changes in the account, and runs as a hosted server you reach with one URL.

The three tools in Google's server are called search, get_resource_metadata and list_accessible_customers. Together they let an assistant list which accounts it can reach, run a GAQL query and look up which fields a resource has. That's a solid reporting layer, it's free, and it comes straight from the source.

What it doesn't do is change anything. Google's documentation says the implementation is strictly read-only and can't adjust bids, pause campaigns or create new assets. You also host it yourself, locally or on your own Cloud Run, with your own Google Cloud project and your own Google Ads developer token with at least Explorer access.

So the choice isn't about quality. If you want a reporting endpoint and you're fine running a service yourself, Google's server does that job. If you want your agent to also act on what it finds, and you'd rather not run anything, that's the gap Adlyko fills.

Which AI clients does it work with?

Adlyko is a remote MCP server over HTTP, so every client that supports remote MCP servers connects to it with the same URL. In practice that's Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Cursor and n8n, plus anything else that speaks the protocol.

ClaudeClaude CodeChatGPTPerplexityCursorn8n

Support for remote MCP servers is moving fast, and some clients put it behind a paid plan or a developer setting. In Claude you add a custom connector, in ChatGPT you first turn on developer mode, and in n8n you hang an MCP Client node under your AI Agent. The URL you paste is the same in all three.

There's nothing to install and no key to type over. You add the URL, your client opens a Google sign-in, and the tools are there.

Can it change my campaigns or only read them?

Both, and that's exactly the point. Your agent can add keywords, adjust budgets and build entire campaigns. It puts every change to you first and only makes it once you say yes, and new campaigns are created paused.

Straight in your own account

Every action runs through a connection you authorize yourself with your Google account, and lands in your own Google Ads account. No scraping and no robot clicking through your screen.

You approve, then it happens

Your agent puts a change to you and waits for your answer before adjusting anything. New campaigns are created paused, so whatever comes out of a conversation can't start spending on its own.

You revoke it at Google

The connection is tied to your own Google account, so you revoke it there whenever you want and the tools stop working at that moment.

Every action is logged

Every call is recorded on your account, so afterwards you can check what was read and what was changed.

In practice it works like a conversation with a colleague who does the clicking. They figure out what's going on, come back with a proposal and the numbers behind it, and carry it out as soon as you agree. Want only an analysis? Then you ask for only an analysis and your account stays untouched.

How do I connect it to Claude?

In Claude Desktop or on claude.ai, open your settings, go to Connectors, choose to add a custom connector and paste Adlyko's server URL. Claude opens a Google sign-in, you pick the Google account that can reach your Google Ads account, and in your next conversation the tools are there.

In Claude Code it's one command:

claude mcp add --transport http adlyko https://mcp.adlyko.com/mcp

Then start Claude Code, type /mcp, choose Authenticate and finish the Google sign-in in the window that opens. After that you can ask something like: which campaigns are wasting budget this month?

The server URL is the same for every client: https://mcp.adlyko.com/mcp. The step-by-step for each agent is in the guide to connecting Adlyko to your agent, with separate pages for, among others, Connect Google Ads to ChatGPT and Run Google Ads from n8n.

Is it safe to give an AI agent access to your Google Ads?

It's the same kind of access you give a colleague or an agency: granted through Google's own sign-in page, reaching only the accounts your Google account can already reach, and revocable by you at any time. Google has also verified Adlyko's connection, so you don't get a warning about an unverified app when you connect.

That verification is the part you can see for yourself. Google reviews every app that asks for access to Google Ads, including a recording of the app in use and the privacy policy behind it. Adlyko passed that review, which is why the sign-in screen looks like any other Google sign-in.

After that, the limits are yours. Your agent asks first, new campaigns stay paused until you switch them on, every action is in your log, and you revoke the connection whenever you want. What changes in your account changes because you said so.

Which data we read, why and how long we keep it is in Adlyko's privacy policy.

What does it cost?

The free plan covers one Google Ads account with limited use, including the tools that make changes. Adlyko Pro costs €29 a month for your first account and €20 for each additional account, excluding VAT, and adds unlimited chatting with your AI agent, plus scheduled routines and reports in your inbox.

Every account starts with 7 days of everything, no credit card. Team members are included: your colleagues sign in with their own Google account and work in the accounts you've switched on, each from their own agent.

Exactly what a given number of accounts costs is on the prices per Google Ads account. Want to know first what there is to gain in your account? Then run the free Google Ads audit.

Point your agent at your own account

Sign up with Google, add one URL to the assistant you already use and ask your first question. Nothing gets installed, and you revoke access whenever you want.
